One extended voyage around Australia is being halted following the death of an senior woman who was left behind by the vessel on a remote island.

Suzanne Rees had been hiking on Lizard Island with fellow passengers from the Coral Adventurer, but separated from the excursion for a pause. The liner sailed away leaving her and came back later that day after the crew discovered the passenger was not present.

A major search operation located her person the subsequent day.

Investigative bodies are examining the incident, in coordination with police and the official investigator.

The CEO of the shipping company stated that guests and staff on the ship were notified that the continuation of the cruise had been cancelled due to the "unfortunate death and previous engine troubles".

The offspring of the victim said that her loved ones was "shocked and saddened that the ship left Lizard Island after an organised excursion without my parent".

In her statement, she characterized her mother as an "vigorous octogenarian" who was a participant of a bushwalking club.

"From the little details we have been told, it seems that there was a lapse of responsibility and ordinary reasoning," she mentioned.

She further stated that she wished the investigation would be able to determine what "the operator should have performed that might have preserved Mother's life".

"According to reports from the authorities that it was a very hot day, and mum fell ill on the mountain ascent," she revealed.

"Officials suggested her to go back, unescorted. Then the vessel departed, reportedly without doing a headcount.

"During some point in that chain of events, or not long after, mum passed away, alone."

Company Reaction

Through an announcement, the Head confirmed that the operator was "cooperating fully with authorities to support their examination".

He said that the firm was "deeply sorry that this has happened" and had offered its total backing to the relatives.

Cruise Industry Procedures

The ship accommodates up to a hundred twenty travelers with 46 crew, according to company details. It was specially constructed to access distant areas of the nation's coast and is fitted with "tenders" - small boats used to ferry individuals on shore trips.
