The Black Phone Horror
Derrickson's claustrophobic thriller stands strong despite the lack of a sequel. Located in the late 70s in Denver, a series of child abductions has rendered the youth on edge. Once Finney gets captured by “the Grabber” and imprisoned in a dungeon, he dreads the worst. However, the disconnected phone mounted nearby continues to ring, with ghostly voices giving advice, while the prophetic visions of Gwen, his sister may be his salvation. A genuinely scary movie. The Tammy Faye Biopic
In the conflict between God and Mammon, the winner is obvious for greed in Michael Showalter's wonderfully garish biopic of the disgraced televangelist plus her lawbreaking partner. Garfield portrays the greedy Jim, who proclaims initially, “God does not want us to be poor,”. He and Tammy Faye commence profiting from the people's religious faith. It's an extravaganza of poor styling, bad makeup and insincerity, though Chastain succeeds to present the character in a likable light. Tuesday 14 October, early morning, the Film4 channel
